FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Everything people actually ask us, in the order they tend to ask it. Where the honest answer is that it depends, that is what it says.

Where are you based?

We work nationwide rather than from a single high street, and we are not going to invent a home town to look local in a search result. What matters for your move is whether we can get the right crew and vehicle to your address on your date — and that is a scheduling question rather than a map one.

How do you work out what a move costs?

Volume, distance, access and how much packing you want us to do. Access is the one people forget: a second-floor flat with no lift takes longer than a bungalow holding exactly the same furniture. We look at both ends before quoting, so the written figure is the figure.

Do you survey every move?

In some form, yes. A video walk-round covers most jobs and takes a few minutes; anything larger or more awkward gets a visit. It is the only reason a quote can be firm rather than a starting point somebody intends to revise.

Do you pack for us?

Whichever suits. We pack everything, we pack the half nobody enjoys — kitchen, glass, pictures — or we drop materials off in advance so you can do it yourself. Most people take the middle option.

Can you move us abroad?

To France, Spain, Italy and Portugal, by road, with the customs paperwork prepared before you travel. Those four are the routes we run regularly and know the paperwork for — we would rather be straight about the limits than list twenty countries.

How far ahead should I book?

As soon as you have a likely date, even a provisional one. Fridays and month-ends fill first, and summer fills before spring does. Holding a provisional date costs nothing and moving it is easy.

Do you dismantle and rebuild furniture?

As standard on house moves. Beds, wardrobes, flat-pack units and table legs, with fixings bagged and taped to the piece they came off. If something was assembled in place and will not come apart safely, we say so at survey rather than trying it with the clock running.

Can you move us on completion day?

Yes, and most house moves work that way. It means a morning waiting on solicitors, so we load early and go the moment keys are released. If the chain slips, storage covers the gap.

What will you not put in the van?

Anything flammable or under pressure — petrol, gas bottles, aerosols by the crate, solvents. Plants travel badly and are better in the car. Perishable food and anything living stays with you, as do cash, jewellery and documents.

Do you supply packing materials?

Yes. Double-walled cartons, wardrobe boxes that keep clothes on their hangers, picture and mirror cases, tissue, bubble and tape. We can drop them off in advance or bring them with us.

Is my furniture insured while you have it?

We carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover. The limits, the exclusions and the process for reporting a problem are set out in the booking terms so you can read them before you commit. Anything unusually valuable should be declared at survey.

Can you store things between dates?

Yes — containerised storage, inventoried on the way in. Short overlaps and longer waits both work. Tell us roughly how long and whether anything needs to come back out first, because that changes how the container is packed.

Will you move a piano or something else heavy?

Often, and it gets scoped separately because the answer depends on the staircase more than on the item. Mention it when you enquire and we will look at the route out properly instead of guessing.

What is the difference between man and van and a full removal?

Scale and crew. Man and van suits a single room, a part load or a few pieces — one or two people and one van. A full removal brings a larger crew, a bigger vehicle, materials and furniture dismantling. Describe what you have and we will tell you which yours is.

Do you move students and single rooms?

Yes, and we quote them properly rather than as a favour squeezed between two bookings. A room out of a shared house still has a staircase and a parking problem attached.

Do you work weekends?

Saturdays regularly, and Sundays by arrangement. Commercial moves are frequently out of hours because that is what suits the business and the building.

Can you collect from more than one address?

Yes — a house and a storage unit, or a relative on the way. Mention every pickup point at survey so the route and the load order are planned around them rather than improvised.

What happens if something is damaged?

Note anything visible on the delivery paperwork before we leave, and tell us as soon as you find anything afterwards. The claims process and the reporting window are in the booking terms. We would far rather hear about a scuffed table straight away.

How do I get a quote?

Send both addresses through the quote form with a few lines about access and what is moving, or call. We will come back to arrange a survey and put a written quote together — normally within a working day or two.

Still not sure?

Ask us directly. If we do not know, we will say so rather than making something up.
